The 2024 Taiwan International Water Week (TIWW), organized by TAITRA (Taiwan External Trade Development Council), grandly opened at TWTC Exhibition Hall 1 in Taipei. This year, 100 companies are participating, using nearly 200 booths, resulting in a prime platform for the water resources industry to exhibit, procure, seek business opportunities, and find partners. The exhibition not only gathers together domestic benchmark enterprises, it also attracted enthusiastic participation of international companies from seven countries including France, the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan, and Malaysia, demonstrating the vibrant development and strong momentum of future business opportunities in Taiwan's water resources industry.
Simon Wang, President & CEO of TAITRA, expressed how the urgency of the global water shortage issue has not only drawn attention to water resource applications, it also brings light to the water resource crisis brought about by climate change. Recognizing it as a key factor in promoting global sustainable development, this year's TIWW focuses on two main themes: Sustainable Water and Smart Water, showcasing technological water production such as seawater desalination, reclaimed water, wastewater treatment, as well as innovative solutions like smart monitoring equipment and intelligent systems. These aim to use technology to drive innovation and progress in Taiwan's water conservancy industry and promote sustainable development of water resources. Also, this year's exhibition extended invitations to buyers from Vietnam, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, and Brazil to visit Taiwan, helping Taiwanese manufacturers compete for international market opportunities.
Dr. Chien-Hsin Lai, Director-General of the Water Resources Agency, Ministry of Economic Affairs, pointed out that in the five years since the first TIWW in 2019, Taiwan has witnessed significant growth in both water resource demand and technological innovation across various industries. The government plans to complete over 16 reclaimed water plants over the next decade and build desalination plants in Kaohsiung and Chiayi to meet the growing water demands of various industries. In addition to organizing the Taiwan Water Industry Pavilion at the exhibition, the Water Resources Agency is holding an international forum at the Taipei International Convention Center, inviting over 50 domestic and foreign experts for in-depth discussions covering Taiwan's water resources industry development, technological innovation, and sustainable activities.
This year's exhibition brings together upstream, midstream, and downstream industrial chains in water resources, with leading companies showcasing their best offerings and advances, from components and equipment to overall system planning, presenting the latest solutions in industrial water treatment, water resource management, water transport and storage, and end-point water purification.
In addition to the rich array of water resource products and related solutions, various activities are being held during the exhibition, including 18 exhibitor presentations and three TIWW Tech Talks. These feature Veolia Water, the Water Resources Agency of Taiwan's Ministry of Economic Affairs, and the British Standards Institution (BSI) sharing on topics including wastewater biological treatment technology, carbon neutrality of hydraulic engineering, and international standard trends-ISO 46001 water efficiency management. These discussions provide industry players fertile opportunities to explore water resource development trends and promote multi-faceted exchanges between industry, academia, and research partners. To help businesses secure international opportunities, TAITRA mobilized its 60+ overseas units to invite buyers from a variety of nations for one-on-one discussions with Taiwanese exhibitors, not only promoting the possibility of cross-industry cooperation but also helping Taiwanese manufacturers establish themselves in the competitive international marketplace.
