SEMICON® TAIWAN 2024 will kick off on September 4th. Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International (SEMI) today announced that this year's semiconductor exhibition has five key highlights: 16 major themes, 20 international forums focusing on semiconductor technology innovation, a 360-degree breakdown of advanced semiconductor technologies, 56 countries jointly creating an industry exchange platform, and a special exhibition on talent cultivation combining industry, government, and academia.
This afternoon SEMI held a pre-exhibition press conference for SEMICON TAIWAN 2024. Terry Tsao, Global Chief Marketing Officer and President of SEMI Taiwan noted that this year's semiconductor exhibition is showcasing over 1,100 leading companies and 3,700 booths, an increase of 22% over the previous event. There will be 20 international forums, with an estimated 85,000 domestic and international industry professionals from 56 countries. Pre-registrations have increased by 55% compared to the same period last year.
Terry Tsao emphasized that this semiconductor exhibition has reached a new peak in scale, driving AI and global technological progress and, once again, highlighting Taiwan's leading position in the global semiconductor field.
Terry Tsao outlined the exhibition's five key highlights. The first is 16 major themes with innovation areas embracing AI. The exhibition covers traditional areas such as green manufacturing and heterogeneous integration, and has new areas like AI semiconductor technology, smart mobility innovation, and compound semiconductor concept zones.
The second highlight is 20 international forums focusing on semiconductor technology innovation. Among them, the CEO Summit is the most anticipated with the first joint appearance featuring Dr. Y. J. Mii, Executive Vice President and Co-Chief Operating Officer of TSMC; Dr. Tien-Yu Wu, CEO of ASE; Jung-Bae Lee, Corporate President/Head of Memory Business at Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd.; and Hamidou Dia, VP of Applied AI Engineering at Google. They will engage in a discussion of the century of AI chips, exploring the technology, cross-industry integration, and future landscape of semiconductors and AI.
The third highlight is a 360-degree breakdown of advanced semiconductor technologies, discussing topics that include advanced processes, heterogeneous integration, 3D IC, silicon photonics, fan-out panel level packaging (FOPLP) and testing.
The fourth highlight is that representatives from 56 countries will be gathering, forming an industry exchange platform. This year, Taiwan's close cooperation with 56 countries and the establishment of 12 national pavilions deepens exchanges, promotes innovation, and creates global cooperation business opportunities for Taiwan's semiconductor industry.
The fifth highlight is a special exhibition on talent cultivation that combines industry, government, and academia. This is a platform for students to connect with industry, inviting corporate representatives to participate in discussions and guided tours, opening up semiconductor career opportunities, and exploring issues such as career development, diverse talent, and R&D cultivation.
Terry Tsao pointed out that semiconductors drive the flourishing development of a majority of industries. Semiconductor technology not only empowers AI, it also brings significant changes to fields including smart manufacturing and smart mobility, driving continuous evolution in the overall technology ecosystem. There will be dedicated areas for localization of semiconductor equipment components and precision machinery.
In addition to providing welcome gifts for foreign visitors, Terry Tsao mentioned that SEMICON organizers are collaborating with the Taipei 101 skyscraper operator to light up Taipei 101 from 6:30–10:00 PM on September 4th with the slogan "Semiconductors Illuminate Taiwan, Taiwan Shines Globally".
