The Asian Federation of Exhibition & Convention Associations (AFECA) recently held its 2023 annual assembly in Bangkok, Thailand. Taiwan was represented by Chiu Hui-Li, president of the Taiwan Exhibition and Convention Association (TECA), and Director Yang Chia-Hsien of the Taiwan International Trade Administration (TITA) of the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA). Members of the Taiwan delegation included representatives from Chan Chao, K&A International, and the Kaohsiung Global MICE Association, who shared insights into MICE trends in Taiwan and introduced Taiwan's MICE industry through videos. Director Yang of the International Trade Administration emphasized that Taiwan's MICE activities are highly competitive internationally and welcomed exhibitors and attendees from around the world to participate in Taiwan's MICE events.
TECA President Chiu Hui-Li, who is also deputy secretary-general of the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), pointed out that in recent years several new exhibition centers have been and will be ready, including the International Convention Center Tainan, Taoyuan Convention and Exhibition Center, and Taichung Convention and Exhibition Center. With support of local governments, these developments are expected to bring in new business opportunities for Taiwan's MICE industry.
During this AFECA assembly, the Deputy Secretary-General of the Office of the Prime Minister of Thailand, together with the AFECA Chairman, presented the AFECA Leadership Recognition Award to three AFECA Honorary Chairpersons. Among them, Yeh Ming-Shui, the Honorary Chairman of TECA, was recognized for his outstanding contributions to the Asian MICE industry. AFECA also awarded the AFECA Star Award to various national MICE associations. In Taiwan, both the Taiwan Exhibition and Convention Association (TECA) and the Taiwan Convention & Exhibition Association (TCEA) received this prestigious honor.
