Taiwan MICE Team Recognized in Thailand for Extraordinary Performance

The Asian Federation of Exhibition & Convention Associations (AFECA) recently held its 2023 annual assembly in Bangkok, Thailand. Taiwan was represented by Chiu Hui-Li, president of the Taiwan Exhibition and Convention Association (TECA), and Director Yang Chia-Hsien of the Taiwan International Trade Administration (TITA) of the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA). Members of the Taiwan delegation included representatives from Chan Chao, K&A International, and the Kaohsiung Global MICE Association, who shared insights into MICE trends in Taiwan and introduced Taiwan's MICE industry through videos. Director Yang of the International Trade Administration emphasized that Taiwan's MICE activities are highly competitive internationally and welcomed exhibitors and attendees from around the world to participate in Taiwan's MICE events.


TECA President Chiu Hui-Li, who is also deputy secretary-general of the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), pointed out that in recent years several new exhibition centers have been and will be ready, including the International Convention Center Tainan, Taoyuan Convention and Exhibition Center, and Taichung Convention and Exhibition Center. With support of local governments, these developments are expected to bring in new business opportunities for Taiwan's MICE industry.


During this AFECA assembly, the Deputy Secretary-General of the Office of the Prime Minister of Thailand, together with the AFECA Chairman, presented the AFECA Leadership Recognition Award to three AFECA Honorary Chairpersons. Among them, Yeh Ming-Shui, the Honorary Chairman of TECA, was recognized for his outstanding contributions to the Asian MICE industry. AFECA also awarded the AFECA Star Award to various national MICE associations. In Taiwan, both the Taiwan Exhibition and Convention Association (TECA) and the Taiwan Convention & Exhibition Association (TCEA) received this prestigious honor.

Taiwan Named Best Conference and Exhibition Destination in Asia Again

Taiwan’s business events industry once again celebrates another gold award on the world stage. MEET TAIWAN, a program organized by Taiwan International Trade Administration (TITA) of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and implemented by Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), has continued its successful promotion of Taiwan’s business events industry to achieve international acclaim. This accolade underscores Taiwan’s outstanding reputation and performance in the business events sector throughout the region.TITA plays a key role in developing Taiwan’s robust business events infrastructure. This includes the construction and operation of major venues such as the Taipei International Convention Center, Taipei World Trade Center, Nangang Exhibition Center, International Convention Center Tainan (ICC Tainan), and Kaohsiung Exhibition Center. With the anticipated opening of Messe Taoyuan at the end of October, Taiwan will have a comprehensive network of unique business events cities from north to south, providing both domestic and international event organizers with a diverse range of professional options and further enhancing Taiwan's business events capabilities.The business events industry is closely linked to a variety of sectors—and TITA has strategically developed venues to meet specific industry needs. For example, in Kaohsiung, a hub for the fastener industry, TITA hosts the Fastener Taiwan trade show, a major industry international event, in the Kaohsiung Exhibition Center, contributing to continuous growth in scale of the exhibition. This year, the 23rd World Orchid Conference and Exhibition, often referred to as the "Olympics of the Orchid World", was held in Tainan, a key orchid production area, in conjunction with the 20th Taiwan International Orchid Show. This event, supported by top-notch facilities at ICC Tainan, marked the first time these two major global orchid events were held simultaneously, showcasing the significant role of business events venues in boosting Taiwan’s international visibility and competitiveness.Not only does TITA focus on business opportunities and commercial exchanges, it also actively promotes Taiwan’s diverse characteristics on the global stage. Taiwan aims to offer international business visitors exceptional business events experiences, while also showcasing Michelin star-rated cuisine, rich culture, and advanced medical and wellness services. This approach enhances Taiwan’s international image and encourages spending among international business travelers.The Stella Awards is organized by M&C Asia, a media entity with over 20,000 readers from the global MICE industry under the renowned Northstar Meetings Group. With over 50 years of experience in the exhibition domain, the group’s annual awards are determined through reader voting. From 2021 to 2023, MEET TAIWAN was honored three times as the Best Convention & Visitor Bureau in Asia. This recognition reflects TITA’s long-term efforts and international acknowledgment of Taiwan’s business events industry. The award ceremony took place on September 4 at the Sands Resort Macau.The Best Conference and Exhibition Destination in Asia accolade underscores Taiwan’s growing influence and success in the global business events sector. MEET TAIWAN Successfully Promotes Taiwan’s business events Industry Wins a Gold Stevie® Award

The MEET TAIWAN Open Arms annual integrated marketing campaign, organized by Taiwan International Trade Administration (TITA), under the Ministry of Economic Affairs and executed by the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), was launched last year (2023). The Open Arms campaign, recognized at the 21st Stevie® Awards, won the prestigious Gold Stevie® award for the category, Communications or PR Campaign/Program of the Year - Country, Region or City."MEET TAIWAN Open Arms" embodies the spirit of extending a warm welcome to the global business events industry. Last year, the original theme song and music video were launched for the first time, accompanied by the mascot "PaQ" (meaning "open" in the Taiwanese dialect), to express Taiwan's friendliness and enthusiasm to business events partners worldwide.The campaign also introduced the MEET TAIWAN Festival, a full month of continuous activities that showcased Taiwan's vibrant energy of business events, with over 300 domestic and international industry players participating. The Asian MICE Forum was held. The campaign also engaged the public through creative social media videos welcoming international business visitors. Additionally, at the Taiwan Expo Japan, an immersive dome theater shaped like the Open Arms symbol was constructed, highlighting Taiwan's creativity and vibrant energy in the business events industry.The Stevie® Awards, one of the world's most renowned business awards, are often referred to as the "Oscars of the Business World". Each year, over 12,000 entries from more than 70 countries and regions compete in a variety of categories. In the PR category alone, there were 45 awards. This year, the 2024 Stevie Awards ceremony will be held on October 11th in Istanbul, Turkey.Stevie® Award judges highlighted that the Open Arms campaign effectively conveyed a warm and sincere welcome. The memorable and catchy slogan, along with the creation of the open-armed mascot PaQ, brought the Open Arms concept to life and gained widespread popularity. The campaign broke away from traditional marketing approaches of destination promotion of business events, using a warm and human-centered approach to communicate its message. The result was a rapid recovery in the number of business events held in Taiwan in 2023, proving the campaign's success as a destination marketing strategy.In recent years, TITA has consistently earned numerous international accolades, such as being recognized for three consecutive years (2021–2023) as the Best Convention & Visitors Bureau (Asia) by the prestigious Stella Awards. Through MEET TAIWAN’s initiative, TITA has strategically promoted Taiwan's international image as a top destination for business events. Past Stevie® Award achievements include a Gold in 2015 for the Asia Super Team campaign and a Bronze in 2019 for the High Five Taiwan campaign. International MICE Round Table Summit Concludes with Resounding Success

To enhance the international visibility of Taiwan's MICE industry and strengthen connections with international MICE organizations and CVBs, the International Trade Administration (TITA), Ministry of Economic Affairs hosted the "International MICE Round Table Summit" from June 3 to 5, 2024. The event invited high-level representatives from global key MICE associations and CVBs from various countries to Taiwan during the “2024 COMPUTEX Taipei”, inviting them to experience Taiwan's excellent MICE environment and unique local culture. Following the receipt of the "Industry Partner Award" from the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry (UFI) at the end of last year, this is the first time for TITA to organize the International MICE Round Table Summit. 15 prominent figures in the international MICE industry, including Ori Lahav, former president of the International Association of Professional Congress Organizers (IAPCO), David Harrison, board member of the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry (UFI), Larry Mullin, chairman of the U.S. Convention & Visitors Bureau, and Matt Pearce, vice-president of the Australian Business Events Association, gathered in Taiwan to interact and exchange ideas with local MICE professionals, providing valuable insights for Taiwan's MICE industry.During the event, attendees visited the internationally renowned "2024 COMPUTEX Taipei" and "2024 Taiwan International Fastener Show." They were impressed by Taiwan's low-carbon, energy-efficient exhibition practices, as well as the integration of AI tour guides and the automatic generation of 3D models of exhibited products. They also visited major MICE cities in Taiwan such as Taipei, Tainan, and Kaohsiung, to experience cultural features and interact with local governments and MICE industry stakeholders.During the final day of the summit, at the " Round Table Concluding Session ", international professionals discussed and exchanged opinions on topics such as Sustainability, Technology & AI and Destination Marketing with Taiwanese MICE stakeholders. Edward Liu, honorary chairman of the Asian Federation of Exhibition and Convention Associations (AFECA), highlighted that Taiwan has been a leader in promoting sustainable MICE activities in Southeast Asia for over a decade, achieving significant results and serving as a model to follow. Benefiting from the excellence in the technology sector, Taiwan's application of AI in event tracking, digital registration, and crowd control received high praise from international professionals. Nearly ten of the international professionals were visiting Taiwan for the first time, and they were deeply impressed by the local cultural landscape, safe environment, and MICE resources. Many expressed their intention to recommend Taiwan as a top MICE destination.Knowledge exchanges during the summit reaffirmed Taiwan's focus on sustainability and technology as the right development direction. Moving forward, MEET TAIWAN will continue to focus on these aspects to ensure that Taiwan's MICE industry maintains a pioneering position in the global MICE market. MEET TAIWAN also compiled the Round Table professionals' suggestions into an organized document to serve as an important reference for the development of Taiwan's MICE industry.The International MICE Round Table Summit concluded successfully, with numerous high-level MICE professionals from overseas participating in the event in Taiwan.
