Taiwan Innotech Expo, Creating Unlimited Business Opportunities Worldwide

Integrating the virtual and the reality, 69 international companies from 18 countries participated in the expo, and negotiated more than 1500 cases.

2022 Taiwan Innotech Expo (TIE), which was co-organized by the Ministry of Economic Affairs(MOEA), National Science and Technology Council, Council of Agriculture, Executive Yuan(COA), Ministry of National Defense, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Labor, Ministry of Health and Welfare, Environmental Protection Administration, Executive Yuan, National Development Council, Academia Sinica and others, closed on October 15.

The Expo was both physical and online, with more than 293 exhibitors from Taiwan and overseas demonstrating nearly 1,200 innovative technologies, including 69 international companies exhibiting 114 of the latest cutting-edge technologies. Among them, international quasi-governmental organizations such as the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) and Japan-Taiwan Exchange Association also came to Taiwan for the first time after the pandemic to showcase their latest technologies personally, hoping to establish cooperative partnerships with Taiwan industries.

The Expo was held from October 13 to 15 and attracted more than 18,000 visitors over the three days. The opening ceremony was attended by Tsung-Tsong Wu, Minister of the National Science and Technology Council (Taiwan), Chern-Chyi “C.C.” Chen, the Deputy Minister of MOEA, and Huang, Chin-Cheng, the Deputy Minister of COA, who delivered speeches to present the results of Taiwan’s interdisciplinary innovation and research to the international community. The TIE online Expo attracted more than 210,000 visitors in 10 days, and more than 1,500 cases were negotiated, showing that even under the pandemic, vendors and buyers are still looking forward to the TIE. The Expo was very successful and ended with a lot of applause.


Combining 3 sections: Innovation, Sustainability, and Future,

showcasing technological R&D strength.

This year, TIE exhibited more than 1,000 innovative technologies in the "Innovation Pilot", "Future Tech", "Sustainability" and "Excellent Invention" pavilions. A total of 6 international forums, over 40 seminars, and technology presentations were held to share the latest global technology trends and opportunities of intellectual property, and to create chances of international technology cooperation for Taiwan's research and industry through intelligent technology recommendations and online 1-to-1 negotiations. In addition, there were multinational distance technology presentations and online matchmaking events to demonstrate the abundant R&D energy of Taiwan’s industry, government, academia, and research quartet. Moreover, 18 organizations, such as the Japan-Taiwan Exchange Association, iENA Taiwan delegation, Foxconn Technology Group, and Inventec Appliances Corporation, enthusiastically participated in the event.

 

Innovation Pilot: Global Innovation — Let Taiwan Lead the Way

The Innovation Pilot not only gathered the R&D achievements of the ministries and agencies such as the Industrial Development Bureau, Department of Industrial Technology, Small and Medium Enterprise Administration, MOEA, National Development Council, and Ministry of National Defense, but also the innovative technologies of Taiwanese and overseas multidisciplinary technology companies. This year, for the first time, a “Semiconductor Zone” was set up in the pavilion, and 10 major semiconductor companies, led by TSMC, were invited to participate in the exhibition. The Semiconductor Zone, which gathered the latest cutting-edge technologies and products from 10 major semiconductor companies, including TSMC, MTK, and ASE Group, became a hot spot for visitors as soon as it opened.

PSMC, one of Taiwan’s top three foundries, focused on “In-memory computing”, exhibiting AI memory architecture and 3D wafer stacking technologies that can improve AI computing performance and reduce power consumption. Ardentec Technology Inc. introduced its wafer testing and mass production technologies for automotive/ security ICs, as well as the “Automotive and Electrical Professional Testing Technology” for intelligent manufacturing. Another company, MPI Corporation, a probe card solutions provider, demonstrated its high-end PCB high-frequency and high-speed intelligent inspection solutions that can integrate both testing equipment and key components, under the theme of “High-end Test Key Components”.

In the “Discovering Technology Treasure” area, the Department of Industrial Technology selected and displayed 80 top technology projects. For example, the “Digital Carbon Reduction Application Technology,” developed by the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), has successfully assisted a number of major local factories to reduce carbon emissions by applying AI optimization technology to rapidly analyze over a million pieces of data from MES to ERP in factories. The National Development Council also exhibited the "Privacy Data Processing Chip" developed by DeCloak Intelligences Co. The core technology can destroy identifiable data segments by adding random numbers to the data, while maintaining efficient analysis of the data after de-identification for reuse purposes. The Small and Medium Enterprise Administration demonstrated the first legally registered "Solid Recovered Fuel (SRF)" manufacturing plant in Taiwan. The Ministry of National Defense displayed five products that are common to both the military and the public, including a "Mobile Energy Storage and Power Supply System" and an "AI Face Recognition Temperature Measurement System," showing the social responsibility spirit of "Going Green".

 

Sustainability: Net-zero Carbon Emissions for Sustainable Homeland

The “Sustainability” pavilion is coordinated by the COA and presented by the Environmental Protection Administration, Ministry of Labor, Institute of Nuclear Energy Research, AEC, Industrial Development Bureau, Bureau of Energy, and State-owned Enterprise Commission, MOEA, etc. under the three major themes of “Carbon Reduction and Exchange”, “Green Energy Technology”, and “Recycling”. To achieve the goal of net-zero carbon emissions, Taiwan has developed a number of new technologies, ranging from "new seeds adapted to changing climate", automated-mechanized production technologies, and recycling of agricultural by-products, to ensure a safe and stable supply of food in Taiwan. The Expo featured 7 highlight technologies, ranging from “Crawler-type electric intelligent follow-up transporter(COA)”, “Technology for the Development of Coffee Grounds as a Functional Feed Additive(EPA) ”, and “Multifunctional Agricultural Harvesting Aids (Institute of Labor, Occupational Safety And Health, MOL)”, which promotes sustainable agriculture, to “Hydrogen Energy Development Platform (Bureau of Energy)”, “Highly Weather Resistant and High Strength Engineering Grade Material for Solar Panel Frame (IDB)”, and “Power Distribution Feeder Divisional Transfer and Power Restoration Strategies (INER)”, which are breakthrough technologies for green energy, and an“Artificial Intelligent Water Leak Detector (Taiwan Water Corporation)”, which reduces waste of resources, in the hope of achieving the goal of “Net-Zero-Sustainability, Resilient Co-Prosperity” through the efforts and achievements of R&D organizations.


Excellent Invention: Global Research, Link to Taiwan

“Excellent Invention” was organized by the NSTC and co-curated by the MOE, MOHW and Academia Sinica. The main theme of the Expo was "Global Research, Link to Taiwan", focusing on 8 major fields, including AIoT intelligent applications, sustainable green energy and materials, electro-optics, and precision health and sports technology, with a total of 200 research technologies and project achievements, through two thematic experience zones, "Precision Health" and "Sports Technology". For example, the "Deep learning combined with IoT Pulse-oximeter for early warning of sudden death" technology demonstrated by National Taiwan University College of Medicine is the first AIOT continuous oxygen detection system with artificial intelligence for early warning of sudden death, which will allow the monitored person to have sufficient time to get medical treatment in the future. The AIoT intelligent application field covers sports monitoring, financial security, territorial sustainability, and other issues closely related to our daily lives. The sustainable green energy and advanced materials field otherwise provides solutions to social issues, such as green energy applications, stable power consumption, energy saving, and carbon reduction.

This year, the first TechInnovation Excellence Award was held to call on Taiwan’s semiconductor industry and to invite international innovative, corporate, and academic research institutions to compete for related technologies and applications. 119 teams of top innovation teams from academic institutions nationwide competed for the award, and 11 teams were finally selected, 5 of which were from Taiwan and 6 from international teams. This year, the main award categories were “Sustainable Green Energy and Advanced Materials”, “Precision Health” and “AIoT Intelligent Applications”.

The first prize went to Ganzin Technology, Inc. for its “Miniature Eye Tracking Solution for VR/AR/Smart Glasses”, which breaks through the limitation of eye tracking technology not easily applied to intelligent wearable devices, and has great potential for commercialization. Second place went to FlowVIEW Tek Inc., for providing a full range of liquid material solutions, especially for third-generation semiconductor wet process microcontamination detection. Paragraf Limited, from the University of Cambridge, took third place in the competition, producing high-performance electronic components for a wide range of applications in electric vehicles, aerospace, and medical applications, with its high purity graphite 2D materials. The first TIE Award technology exhibition responded to social needs, brought about people’s sense of well-being, and enhanced the happiness of the whole country, hoping that domestic research achievements and global research trends would advance together and become the future trend of the Expo.

Record-Breaking Yacht Showcase at Taiwan International Boat Show

The 2024 Taiwan International Boat Show concluded successfully in Kaohsiung. For the first time, the event was held entirely outdoors, spanning four marina zones: Horizon City Marina, Pier 22, Argo Yacht Club, and the Third Shipyard. Innovative 5G XR solutions enhanced exhibition performance and competitiveness of participating SMEs. Moreover, data analytics further helped exhibitors to accurately target customers and boost market competitiveness.The PhyGital Experience Zone emphasized interactivity and immersion, successfully combining the dual strengths of physical and virtual exhibitions.
